Part 5 – Locations
The location manager has been designed for dealerships with multiple locations that share the same online inventory. By specifying which location each listing is located at you can better direct your customer's inquiries to the appropriate sales staff as well as give your customers a better idea of what is available in their area. To access the Locations Manager click the "Locations" tab located in the main navigation set.
From the Locations Index you can search, sort, filter, and perform bulk operations on locations. At the top left of the Locations Index page you'll find a keyword quick search box. For advanced search options and filters click the cog icon located on the right side of the search box.
To add a new location, click the green "+ Location" button on the Location Index page.
The only field required to add a location is the "Location name" field, however we do recommend entering as much information as possible to make it easier for your site visitors to contact the dealership.
You can upload an image of the dealership if you'd like. PNG, JPG, and GIF files are supported. Your image will be resized automatically but to reduce the time necessary to upload and process it we recommend uploading a file no larger than 1280px wide.
The Location Details page gives you a full view of all the information available for a location. From this page you can access additional tools for managing each location.
If at any time you need to change the information for a location you can do so by clicking the "Edit" button at the top of the Location Details page, or by clicking the "Edit" link on the Locations Index page. The Edit Location page is virtually identical to the Add Location page. Once you have made your changes be sure to click the "Save Changes" button at the bottom of the page to store the updated information in the database.
You can use the "Purge" feature to quickly delete all of the listings assigned to a location. From the Location Details page, click the "Purge" link. You will be prompted to confirm your request. Click the "Continue" button and all of the location's listings will be moved to the Trash.
The "Purge" link will only be visible if the location has active listings assigned to it.
The "Transfer" feature allows you to quickly reassign all of the listings assigned to a location, to another location. From the Location Details page, click the "Transfer" link. On the "Transfer Listings" page you will be prompted to select a location to transfer the listings to. Select a location from the "Transfer listings to" select box and click the "Continue" button.
If you want to remove the location assignment from the listings assigned to a location you can use the "Orphan" feature. From the Location Details page, click the "Orphan" link. You will be prompted to confirm your request. Click the "Continue" button and the location assignment will be removed from all of the location's listings.
To delete a location and all of the listings assigned to it, click the "Delete" button on the Location Details page. You will be prompted to confirm your request. Click the "Continue" button and the location and all of the location's listings will be moved to the trash.
Deleted locations are located in the Locations Trash. To access the Locations Trash, click the "Trash" button at the top of the Locations Index page.
From the Locations Trash page you can recover deleted locations by either clicking the "Recover" link to the right of the location that you want to recover or by using the checkboxes to select multiple locations and then selecting "Recover the selected locations" from the "Advanced options" select box. Both methods will prompt you to confirm your request.
Recovering a location will not recover any listings that were deleted along with the location. Those listings must be recovered from the Listings Trash.
To permanently remove locations from your system, click the "Empty" button at the top of the Locations Trash page. You will be prompted to confirm your request. Clicking the "Continue" button will permanently delete the locations in the Trash and any images associated with those locations. This action cannot be undone.
